MISSION

  • Safeguard the diverse heritage of Sindh through strategic initiatives and innovative projects to implement vigorous damage control measures to save our cultural legacy from potential threats.

AIM

  • The Endowment Fund Trust (EFT) for Preservation of the Heritage of Sindh, established by the Government of Sindh in August, 2008 with a capital cost of Rs. 1000 million, is an autonomous and a Non-Profit Organization.

  • The EFT is governed by the Board of Trustees comprising of 13 trustees (10 drawn from private sector and 3 from public sector).

  • The Chairman, Managing Trustee and the Secretary of the trust are all from private sector.

  • EFT funds are invested in commercial banks and the income so generated is utilized to achieve objects of the Trust.

  • The Trust is mainly directed towards conservation of historical structures which play a crucial role in preserving our diverse Cultural heritage by ensuring their longevity for future generations.

OBJECTIVES

  • To preserve Sindh’s artistic, tangible and intangible heritage that are endangered and to take necessary steps for its restoration and conservation as recommended by the Technical Committee and approved by the Board.

  • To commission a Sindh Heritage Watch List to document and map cultural sites, landscapes, public art, artefacts, habitats, public and private eligible sites and initiate steps to conserve preserve there for viewing by the public.

  • To provide finances to carryout and support feasibility studies of historical/cultural sites, artefacts and prepare an action plan to be reviewed every three years.

  • To create public awareness and foster an atmosphere of public private cooperation between concerned agencies, government bodies, communities and individuals – divorced from political influence, motivating, planning and executing programmes directed towards addressing the restoration, conservation, preservation and recommend institutional support for the sustained maintenance to contain reversing the threat to the artefacts, places or sites.

  • To prepare the strategy for the training and technical assistance to increase the professional capacity of the custodians/owners of private property. The plan initiative to be revisited every three years for reviewing the performance vis-à-vis the funding etc. with due course to internal monitoring and controls.

  • To seek further financial support from the Government of Pakistan or the Government of Sindh for the development activities once the documentation and Watch List is prepared.

  • To recommend to the Government of Sindh, through its departments or through the legislature for adoption and enactment of laws rules necessary for achieving its objectives as and when required.

  • To collaborate with the Departments of Antiquities, Culture, Heritage and other such bodies in their efforts that conform to the objectives of the Trust.

  • To raise funds from foundations, corporations, investments, donors and individuals and seek assistance from international and national agencies involved in the field of preserving cultural heritage for furthering the objectives of the Trust in association with media and promoters etc. to encourage and engage all sectors of society to support and supplement the efforts of Trust.

  • To encourage capacity building programmes for the economic and social improvement of communities living in the vicinity of heritage sites, to acquire or to hold in lease or own any cultural property or part thereof which the Trust may deem necessary for furtherance of its objectives.

  • To undertake pilot conservation projects to act as a pressure group by arousing public awareness when any part of the cultural or indigenous heritage is threatened of danger or destruction, arising due to natural disasters, private or public policy or in any other manner.

  • To act as a Culture Bank for providing financial, technical and intellectual assistance towards the preservation of cultural and natural resources and heritage as also of innovative activities, to do all such lawful acts and things as are conducive or incidental to the attainment of the aforesaid objectives of the Trust.

  • To publish books, magazines, etc. relating to the cultural history and heritage of Sindh.
